Carraspio.

Carraspio is a rivermouth beachbreak at the mouth of the Lea river, tucked into a sheltered bay on the Basque coast just west of Lekeitio. The wave breaks over shifting sandbars - on a good bank configuration it produces crisp a-frame peaks with medium-pace walls allowing lefts and rights. The break is well-covered rather than hollow, with crumbly sections and steeper take-off zones on better banks. It needs a solid NW or N swell in the 0.6-1.8m range to fire, as the bay geometry filters out weaker groundswells. Partial shelter from SW winds is a practical advantage - when exposed beaches turn onshore, Carraspio can hold cleaner conditions. The break works across all tides, with sandbar quality as the main variable; outgoing tide tends to produce the most defined peaks. Access is direct via the road along the shore, with free roadside parking and summer lifeguard coverage. Crowds stay light outside peak summer months.
