El Basurero is a left-hand pointbreak over uneven reef on the Basque coast, a few kilometres from Mundaka. The wave only comes alive on the largest swells of the season - the kind that push Mundaka beyond its limits - producing hollow, fast-running lefts that stretch 200-500m along the reef. In the 1-2.5m range with a solid W to NW groundswell, it delivers a near-vertical takeoff and sections that hollow sharply over the shallow inside. Low tide sharpens the shape; rising tide still offers clean walls before it softens. The bay's orientation shelters the lineup from westerly and north-westerly winds, so offshore conditions arrive precisely when the swell does. Access requires a steep descent through a pine forest with no beach facilities below. The name - 'the rubbish dump' - reflects nearby waste infrastructure and persistent estuarine pollution shared with Mundaka; avoid after heavy rain. Crowds are rarely an issue as most surfers concentrate on Mundaka when this spot turns on.
