How we use cookies to improve your experience
Last updated: April 3, 2026
1. Purpose
This page explains how Lineup uses cookies and similar technologies on lineup-experience.com. Our goal is to keep the app running smoothly and understand how surfers use the platform so we can build the features that matter.
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small files stored on your device to ensure the website works correctly. Some are essential to the service, while others help us analyse usage and improve the app. We also use local storage technologies for the same purposes.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
Essential cookies
Required for login, session management, security, and smooth operation of the service. These cannot be disabled.
better-auth.session_token— BetterAuth session authentication__vercel_*— Vercel platform cookies (security, routing)- Supabase auth cookies — database authentication
Analytics cookies
Used to understand how the service is used: pages viewed, interactions, device information, and performance metrics. These run only if you consent through the cookie banner.
- PostHog cookies (
ph_*) — usage analytics and feature flags - Only activated after user consent via cookie banner

- LemonSqueezy cookies — set during checkout for payment processing
- Session-only, not persistent
4. Local Storage & Service Worker
Lineup is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and uses browser storage technologies beyond cookies to deliver a fast, offline-capable experience.
- Local storage — user preferences, cached forecast data, and offline support
- Service worker (
sw.js) — caches static assets for offline access - IndexedDB — may store temporary forecast data for offline viewing
These technologies are essential for the app to function and cannot be disabled without breaking core features.
5. How to Manage Cookies
You can accept or decline analytics cookies from the banner displayed when you visit the site.
You can also change or withdraw your consent at any time by clearing cookies in your browser settings.
Clearing local storage or unregistering the service worker may require you to re-login and will remove cached forecast data.
On mobile devices using our Capacitor app, cookies follow the device's webview settings.
For full details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
6. Retention
- Session cookies — deleted when the browser closes
- Auth cookies — valid for the session duration (configurable)
- Analytics cookies — as configured in PostHog (typically 1 year)
- Local storage — persists until manually cleared or the app is uninstalled
