Laga is a sand-bottom beachbreak inside a scenic pine-fringed bay on the Basque coast, flanked by dramatic cliffs on the east side. The break produces consistent a-frame peaks that shift with the sandbars, offering lefts and rights across all tide stages. Waves are steep at take-off and run at medium pace, occasionally throwing barrel sections when a solid NW swell lines up on a well-formed bank. Best size is 0.6 to 1.8m and the break works across the full tide range. The bay shares the same NW swell window as Mundaka a few kilometres upriver, giving intermediates a more accessible option when the rivermouth is maxing out. Water quality can be affected by estuary runoff after heavy rain. Summer brings a lifeguard, showers and a beach bar. Free parking is easy in winter but fills fast from July when beach tourists arrive from Gernika.
