Zumaia.

Zumaia is a consistent sand-bottom beachbreak at the mouth of the Urola river on the Basque coast. The break produces shifting left and right peaks, working best at low to mid tide when the banks are in good shape. Waves are steep and crumbly rather than hollow, running at a medium pace suited to progressive surfing. The swell window is broad, picking up NW through N groundswells with good regularity thanks to the exposed aspect. A southerly offshore grooms the faces on clean days. The Urola estuary creates rivermouth influence on the sandbars, and periodic estuarine and stormwater pollution is noted, so checking local water quality is worthwhile. Showers and a car park are available on site, with lifeguard cover in summer. Weekend crowds from nearby Donostia and Bilbao can arrive, so early sessions earn more space. Zarautz, one of the premier performance beaches in Spain, is under 8km to the east.
