La Zurriola.

La Zurriola sits on Playa de Gros, the surf beach of San Sebastian, tucked just east of the old town and practically surrounded by city. The break runs off shifting sandbars that change week to week, throwing up a_frame peaks across most of the beach on any decent swell. A defined lefthander peels toward the pier at low tide, giving the longest rides on offer. The wave is punchy and fast when the sandbars stack up correctly, with steep take-offs and walls running 50 to 100 metres before flattening. Anything above about 1.5 metres tends to close out across the beach, so the sweet spot is waist- to head-high swell from the NW. An offshore from the SE keeps faces clean, which aligns with the Basque region's frequent southerly wind patterns. The break works across all tides but loses shape on the lower stages of big swells. Facilities are city-level: paid parking nearby, showers, toilets, lifeguard in summer and a resident surf school.
