Sabón is a highly consistent sand-bottom beachbreak sitting just west of A Coruña, exposed to the W-NW Atlantic swells that pulse through Galicia most of the year. The break produces shifting a-frame peaks across the beach, though the right-hander has earned a reputation as the standout wave: it functions as a swell sponge, firing up earlier than neighbouring breaks and holding shape on SW winds when other spots are already blown out. Wave faces are medium-paced to punchy, with well-covered walls and occasional barrel sections rather than open-faced walls, demanding a committed, vertical approach at takeoff. Optimal size is in the 0.9 to 2.4 metre range, with the wave best at low and falling tide when banks define cleanly and rips become more predictable. A northerly or easterly wind is ideal for grooming the faces. Consistency is exceptionally high by Galician standards, which, combined with easy road access from the city, makes Sabón one of the most heavily surfed beaches on this coast.
