Valdoviño, also known as Praia de Frouxeira, is a long, arcing sandy beach on the Galician Atlantic coast, facing west-northwest and hoovering up W to N swell with impressive consistency. Multiple shifting peaks fire along the beach length, offering both lefts and rights, with the standout feature being a hollow right that peels off a rocky island at one end. A lagoon sits in the centre of the beach, creating a natural division and adding variety to the sandbar formations. The wave is bowly and steep-faced, with fast sections and hollow barrels on the better sets. Takeoffs demand commitment, with a vertical entry and quick footwork needed to avoid the lip. The break is at its best from low to mid tide: as the tide fills, the banks lose their shape, the swell backs off and sections fatten out into frustrating close-outs. Offshore winds are southerly, which keeps conditions clean for extended sessions when the SW Atlantic groundswell is running. The surrounding headlands offer some shelter and help organise the swell into defined peaks.

Sometimes crowded on the best banks, particularly in summer and when nearby spots are blown out. The beach is long enough to spread the crowd thin on average days.
