Doniños is the standout beachbreak of northern Galicia, stretching nearly 2km along an Atlantic-facing coastline that funnels W to NW to N swells into a long series of shifting peaks. The beach draws consistent groundswells year-round, and the quality is genuinely excellent - waves hollow out sharply at low to mid tide, snapping into fast barrel sections that reward committed, skilled surfing. Both lefts and rights break from the same peaks, with the takeoff requiring a vertical commitment as the wave pitches quickly rather than peeling gradually. At higher tides the wave loses its hollow character and softens, but still produces rideable sections across the full 2km stretch. The beach works on south-easterly winds, which are the dominant offshores for this coastline orientation. Summer brings the highest crowds and the most intense localism, primarily from the Ferrol surf community who treat Doniños as their home break. Parking becomes difficult in peak season.
