Campelo is a compact, high-performance beachbreak set on a 300-metre sandy cove flanked by cliffs and native vegetation in the Valdovino municipality of Galicia. The break is built around a sand bottom that produces fast, hollow a-frame peaks with pronounced barrel sections, pitching hardest when a solid W or NW swell fills in between 1 and 2.5 metres. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot: the banks dry out enough to create a steep take-off zone and a quick wall that demands early commitment and rail surfing rather than finesse. As the tide pushes past mid, the wave tends to back off and wall up across a wider section, which can still produce decent rides but loses the hollow punch. Consistency is a standout quality -- Campelo picks up almost any westerly energy running down from the Bay of Biscay, making it a reliable option when the rest of the Galician coast is either too small or blown out. A south-easterly offshore is the defining wind for clean conditions, while the surrounding topography offers limited protection from northerly or westerly breezes.
