Malpica.

Malpica is a sand-bottom beachbreak sitting in front of the small fishing village of Malpica de Bergantiños on the Costa da Morte in Galicia. The break is oriented to receive NW and N swells while remaining sheltered from direct W swells and SW wind, meaning it stays cleaner than many of its neighbours when a swell lines up from the right direction. On a mid to large swell the beach produces fast, well-covered a-frame peaks with a vertical takeoff and barrel sections that reward experienced surfers who can read the shifting banks. The wave runs 50 to 100 metres when conditions align, with the best windows falling on low to mid tide as the outgoing water draws up the faces. At high tide the break tends to go soft and lose its shape. A southerly offshore is the ideal wind companion, and when that combination clicks with a solid NW pulse the crowd builds quickly, sparking the localism the spot is known for. Outside of firing conditions the beach is largely quiet.
