Verdicio is a sand-bottom beachbreak on the central Asturian coast between the industrial cities of Aviles and Gijon, occupying a stretch of exposed north-facing beach that catches W through NW Atlantic swell reliably throughout autumn and winter. The break produces several A-frame peaks distributed along the beach, with wave lengths running 50 to 100 metres on a good day. Character is medium-paced and well-covered rather than hollow or overly steep: the banks reward linking turns rather than hunting barrels, though barrel sections do open up when a solid 1.5m or larger NW swell combines with a low-tide push. Rocky outcrops at the ends of the main sandy arc create rip channels that help flush the lineup and occasionally provide a free paddle back to the peak, but they also generate the strongest current hazard on the beach. Swell needs to be at least 1m to produce workable faces; the spot handles up to around 2.5m before it becomes disorganised.
