San Lorenzo is a sand-bottom beachbreak running along the full length of Gijon's central city beach, one of the largest urban surf beaches in northern Spain. The break produces shifting left and right peaks that tend toward the mellow and medium-paced rather than hollow, with a well-covered feel across most of the swell range. The wave is oriented toward W-NW swells arriving from the Bay of Biscay, with the optimal window sitting between 0.9m and 2.4m. Anything beyond that and the beach starts to close out. A southerly wind draws the faces clean and keeps the conditions workable, while the SW can also deliver acceptable sessions when nothing else is on offer. All states of tide produce rideable waves, though the outgoing phase tends to sharpen the banks slightly. Ride lengths sit in the 50 to 100 metre range on better days. The break sits directly beneath the city, which means full beach infrastructure within walking distance: showers, a lifeguard post in season, surf school, surf shop, bars and camping a short drive out.
