Peñarrubia.

Peñarrubia is a lefthand reefbreak perched beneath high cliffs on the eastern fringe of Gijón, accessible only after descending close to 200 steps from the clifftop path. The wave breaks over an uneven submerged reef with a well-covered depth profile, producing steep, medium-paced walls suited to intermediate surfers who can read a reef lineup. The shape skews toward cutback and performance surfing rather than the barrel: the takeoff is relatively straightforward, but the faces are steep enough to demand commitment and a clean bottom turn. Runs best in the 1.5 to 3m range on a W to NW groundswell with a south-easterly offshore. Consistency is moderate as the break needs a solid swell to wake up, and it shuts down early on the incoming tide, so the usable window is concentrated around low water. Wave lengths fall in the 100 to 200m band, giving meaningful rides when it clicks. The surrounding area is flanked by Playa Cagonera and Playa Cervigon, both of which offer their own low-tide reef options a short walk away.
