Playa España is a compact sand-bottom beachbreak sitting a few kilometres east of Gijón, tucked into a small rural bay that belies its urban proximity. The beach runs roughly 175 metres and hosts shifting left and right peaks that, given a proper NW to N swell, stand up fast and throw hollow sections over the shallow banks. Wave length is short, typically under 50 metres, but the shape rewards quick, committed surfing rather than drawn-out carving. Performance windows open from around 1 metre, with the sweet spot sitting between 1 and 2.5 metres before the banks struggle to hold the power. The break works across most tides but hits best from low through to the first half of the rising tide, when the banks drain and shorebreak sections begin stacking. A southerly wind is the offshore here, consistent with Asturias's dominant swell window and the bay's north-facing aspect.
