Gaviotas.

Gaviotas is a sand-bottom beachbreak on the northeast coast of Tenerife, sitting just north of Santa Cruz and sheltered enough from the dominant trade winds to offer cleaner conditions than most of the island's exposed beaches. The wave breaks as shifting left and right peaks, crumbly and slopey with occasional steeper, hollow sections when the banks are well-formed. Wave faces are well-covered and medium-paced rather than fast, which makes the break forgiving and well suited to learners. Wave length runs between 50 and 100 metres on a good day. The break works across a wide swell window from northeast through to south, with the optimal swell arriving from the northeast. A northwesterly wind keeps the faces clean and is the prevailing offshore here. All tide stages produce rideable surf, though sessions on the incoming tide tend to deliver the better-shaped banks. Consistency is moderate; the spot can go flat when northeast swells are absent and can also receive short-period wind swell from the same direction.
