El Charco.

El Charco lines up along the north coast of Tenerife at Bajamar, producing one of the island's longest lefts when NW to N swells arrive with enough size to link its multiple sections. The wave breaks over an uneven lava reef with a critical takeoff that pitches steep and fast from the first section, running through barrel sequences for 200 to 500 metres before fading. In smaller swells the sections break separately and offer little reward; the break only reveals its full quality when the face exceeds 1.5m and the sections begin to connect. An outside peak known as El Pozo sits further off the point and handles the biggest swells, drawing dedicated big-wave surfers when the north Atlantic fires. High tide is the only window - the reef becomes dangerously exposed at lower water, cutting the session short. Any southerly wind holds the lip and keeps the shape clean. The environment is honest: heavy currents run through the lineup, boils disrupt paddling lines, and the shallow lava underneath punishes mistakes.
