Playa del Socorro.

Playa del Socorro sits on the north coast of Tenerife near Los Realejos, angled northwest to collect any north through northwest groundswell that travels down the Atlantic. The beach sits below tall cliffs that shelter it from easterly winds, meaning conditions often stay cleaner here when other Canary Islands spots are blown out. The break is a shifting peaks beachbreak over a mix of sand and uneven reef, producing left and right walls that are well-covered and slopey in the small range but steepen noticeably above 1m. Shape data shows hollow, steep takeoffs alongside a slopey, welling-up power profile, making waves punchy and satisfying for intermediate surfers working turns on the face. At larger sizes, the paddle out becomes punishing, rip currents intensify along the rocky margins, and only experienced surfers should be out. The cliffs backing the beach create a natural amphitheatre and provide protection from the dominant easterly trades, which is a meaningful advantage on the north coast.
