Surf spot guide · Tenerife, Spain
Tenerife's premier outside right reef, delivering long, hollow walls of 200-500m over mossy uneven rock on solid NW-N swell.
Fuera de la Bajeta is a renowned outside reef right located off Punta del Altagay on Tenerife's north coast, breaking over a stretch of mossy, uneven rock that can hold waves from around 2m up to well overhead. The wave needs a genuine overhead N to NE swell to start linking together and will not back off as size increases, making it one of the few Canary Island setups that scales into serious overhead-plus surf. Once firing, the right-hander runs 200 to 500m down the point in a bowly, wrapping wall that stays fast and hollow through the main sections without becoming a closeout. The takeoff is vertical and committed, with boils and shallow patches across the reef demanding precise positioning. Outgoing tide sharpens the rip along the reef, so paddling out and back in requires reading the currents carefully. La Bajeta itself, the inner section closer to the sharper rocks, activates separately on smaller summer NE swells and high tide.

Crowds are moderate given the expert-only conditions. The lineup self-selects with experienced local and travelling surfers, and smaller swells push everyone onto the more accessible inner breaks nearby.
