Bowly reef right near Garachico firing fast, punchy walls on NW to NE swells with a rarely-crowded lineup.
La Caleta is a reef break near Garachico on Tenerife's northwest coast, surfing across an uneven submerged reef that produces a bowly right-hander as its headline wave. The main right peels in powerful, punchy walls with fast sections that reward surfers who commit on steep, vertical takeoffs. Two additional waves operate in the bay: a left breaks further east and another sits across the bay toward town, giving options when the main peak is occupied. NW to NE swells with an optimal N component are the engine; the wide swell window picks up well on passing Atlantic groundswells. Southerly winds are offshore and hold the face clean. The reef is shallow with boils and there is significant water movement on the right - rip currents are a real factor when the swell builds. Wave length runs 200 to 500 metres on a good day. Car park and free roadside parking sit nearby. The crowd stays thin compared to better-known Tenerife breaks, making it a solid call whenever swell is in the water.
