El Agujero sits on Gran Canaria's north coast near Galdar, breaking over submerged tongues of volcanic rock that produce one of the island's most powerful and consequential barrels. The wave is a right-dominant a-frame: the right is a thick, wedging, freight-train barrel with airdrop takeoffs over a supershallow reef that punishes mistakes without mercy; the left is markedly inferior in both shape and depth. NW swells in the 1.2 to 3.7m range activate the break, with a southerly wind providing the offshore needed to hold the faces. Mid to high tide is the window - too low and the reef becomes more exposed and irregular. Consistency is low; the spot needs a proper NW groundswell to fire and can sit flat for long stretches. When it does break, the barrel sections are short to mid-length (50 to 100m), square, and unforgiving. Localism is a real factor: the crew here is tight-knit and not welcoming to outsiders, matching the severity of the wave itself. Parking is available roadside at no charge. Facilities are absent.
