La Guancha.

La Guancha is a world-class reef peak on the Galdar coast of Gran Canaria, wedged between the notorious slab of El Fronton to the east and the powerful rights of El Agujero to the west. The break fires on N to NE swells in the 0.9 to 3.0 metre range, with the peak pitching hard over a shallow, uneven volcanic reef platform that amplifies power and speed. The wave is predominantly a right-hander: thick, square lips throw well overhead, demanding a committed airdrop takeoff before the tube section runs for 50 to 100 metres along the reef. The left is surfable but rarely matches the right in quality. Low to incoming tide is the window; higher water softens the punch and buries the bowl sections. A southerly wind provides clean offshore conditions, though the exposed north coast picks up cross-shore chop when the trades are up. Consistency is moderate at around 5 out of 10, as the break needs proper N to NE energy to switch on and can go weeks without firing during persistent south or east groundswells.
