Boquines.

Boquines is a right-hand pointbreak breaking over a boulder bottom on the north coast of Gran Canaria, near the town of Moya. The wave produces long, slopey walls with a welling, building quality that rewards progressive surfing - cutbacks, snaps and flowing turns all work well across the 200 to 500-metre ride length when the swell angles correctly. The shape is steep rather than hollow, with a medium-paced face that stays well-covered through most of the ride and only occasionally shows flat spots. Low tide paired with incoming swell is the sweet spot, as the rising water smooths out the boulder entries and fills in the sections. Spring and summer are the prime seasons: easterly and north-easterly swells of 0.9 to 2.4 metres wrap into the bay cleanly with a southerly wind offshore, and the crowd stays manageable despite the break's reputation among local intermediates from Moya and surrounding north-coast towns.
