Ereaga is a beachbreak sitting inside the Bilbao rivermouth, adjacent to the affluent Algorta district of Getxo. The break works across all tides, producing shifting left and right peaks that tend to run crumbly and medium-paced rather than hollow or fast. The bottom combines sand with rock ledge, keeping wave faces well-covered through most of the tidal cycle but exposing some sections at low tide. The spot fires best on W to NW swells in the 0.3-1.2m range, with SE offshore winds that accompany settled high-pressure periods cleaning up the faces. In larger, stormier swells it offers shelter compared to more exposed stretches up the coast, making it a reliable option when outer breaks are maxing out. Pollution is a serious concern - a longstanding bathing ban tied to the Bilbao estuary has historically affected water quality, fed by commercial, residential and stormwater inputs. Urban infrastructure wraps around the beach, with metered parking, showers, bars and shops within easy reach.
