Surf spot guide · Fuerteventura, Spain
Punchy, hollow left reef tucked inside Corralejo bay, firing best on a NE swell with SW winds at mid to high tide.
Bristol is a punchy reef break sitting inside a sheltered bay on the northern tip of Fuerteventura, close to the Corralejo waterfront. The wave breaks left over an uneven reef bottom, producing fast, hollow sections in the 0.9 to 3.7 metre range. The bay shields the line-up from westerly winds, making it one of the more consistent spots on the north coast during cross-shore conditions. NE swell wraps cleanly into the bay and pitches over the shallowest section of reef. The take-off is vertical over a shallow bottom, requiring commitment from the first stroke. At low tide the reef surfaces and the ride becomes genuinely dangerous, with urchin-covered rocks exposed across the line-up. From mid tide upwards the worst sections are covered, barrels become more reliable and the ride runs 50 to 100 metres before fading into the bay. The crowd is heavy and local bodyboarders dominate, having surfed every section of the reef for years.
Vertical take-off over urchin reef, barrels only safe mid-tide upwards.
