Liencres is a high-quality sand beachbreak sitting inside a protected coastal nature reserve west of Santander, producing a shifting series of A-frame peaks that can hold waves from 0.6m through to 2.5m. The banks here tend to pitch fast and steep rather than crumbling, with vertical take-offs and quick wall sections that reward surfers who can generate speed early. Wave lengths run in the 100-200m range on solid groundswell, and the break works across all states of tide thanks to deep, well-covered sand. The optimal window arrives on W-NW swells with a southeast offshore keeping faces clean. Consistency is among the highest on the Cantabrian coast, drawing intermediates and experienced surfers throughout autumn and winter. The spot sits within Parque Natural de las Dunas de Liencres, a dune system that shelters the beach and gives it a scenic, relatively unspoiled backdrop compared to the more urban breaks toward Santander. The main access is via a large pay car park at the park entrance that fills on summer weekends.
