Somo.

Somo is a sand-bottom beachbreak east of Santander producing shifting A-frame peaks across a wide bay. The wave is well-covered and generally mellow but runs fast with steep takeoffs on the better sets, generating performance sections and occasional barrels on bigger days. It works across all tides, with incoming tide producing the cleanest, most organised peaks. NW to N swells in the 0.6-1.8m range are optimal, and southerly winds keep the faces clean. One of the most consistent breaks on the Cantabrian coast, it fires reliably through autumn and winter. The large car park sits directly behind the beach, with showers, a surf school and lifeguard cover in season. The car park and village carry a well-developed surf scene with shops and bars nearby. Crowds run heavy year-round given proximity to Santander, and locals guard the best banks seriously. Pollution from urban runoff and the nearby estuary can affect water quality after heavy rain.
