Berria.

Berria is a sandy beachbreak stretching roughly 2km between Monte Buciero and Monte El Brusco, tucked at the edge of Santoña on the Cantabrian coast. The wave produces shifting A-frame peaks across the beach, with the sandbar positions varying considerably by tide and swell direction. The overall character is mellow and well-covered, but steeper sections push occasional punchy walls with barrel sections when the banks line up on a solid 1-2m NW swell. Wave lengths run 50-100m and the medium-paced ride suits intermediates looking for room to work manoeuvres rather than pure power surfing. Needs at least a medium NW or N swell to switch on properly - small summer groundswells often leave the beach flat. The best wind is a southerly offshore, which draws down off the hills behind the beach. In winter the spot sits practically empty, while summer brings beachgoers but still manageable surf crowds. Parking is free and generally easy except at the height of the August peak. Camping is available nearby. Stormwater runoff occasionally affects water quality after prolonged rain.
