Quiet A-frame beachbreak on Playa de Zahara, best on low to mid tide with a SW to NW swell and a northeast offshore.
Zahara de los Atunes is a sand-bottom beachbreak breaking across shifting peaks along Playa de Zahara on Andalucia's Atlantic coast. A-frame peaks offer both left and right rides, with a medium-paced, steep face that wells up out of deep water rather than grinding across a shallow shelf. Take-offs are steep but the wave backs off mid-section rather than barrelling, keeping it accessible for beginners and improvers. Rides run 50m or less. The break needs a SW to NW swell, with NW the optimal angle, and works best at low to mid tide when the banks are most defined. The NE Levante offshore cleans up the faces and is strongest in the morning. This stretch picks up markedly less swell than Conil de la Frontera to the north, so it fires less often but stays near-empty when it does. Military land to the north restricts access and keeps the surfable zone confined to the main Playa de Zahara entry. Free parking and camping are available nearby.
