Playa de la Barrosa.

Playa de la Barrosa is a sandy beachbreak south of Cadiz, sitting in the lee of the large hotel and residential developments that line the Chiclana coastline. The wave is characteristically mellow - crumbly, slopey and well-covered rather than hollow, with medium-paced lefts and rights breaking over shifting sandbanks. Banks can line up into clean, rideable sections reaching 50-100m when the swell is manageable and conditions are right, offering easy entry and forgiving walls that suit beginners and longboarders. The break picks up less swell than Cabo Roche or El Palmar to the south, which is both its limitation and its value: when those spots are closing out on a big SW-NW swell, La Barrosa often produces its best shape at low to mid tide. The urban shelter from the surrounding development also makes it one of the few spots on this stretch that holds up in a strong easterly levante wind, when everywhere else turns choppy. Entry is directly from the beach with no obstacles. Parking is metered along the front and camping is available nearby. The lineup draws a mix of Chiclana locals, beginners from the nearby urban area, and families - the crowd is frequent but the locals are noted as generally friendly.
