Secluded sand beachbreak between La Barrosa and Cabo Roche, sheltered from the levante by coastal cliffs and rarely crowded.
Playa del Puerco is a sand-bottom beachbreak tucked along the Costa de la Luz between the resorts of La Barrosa to the north and Cabo Roche to the south. The cliffs flanking the beach provide meaningful shelter from the easterly levante wind, keeping the surface clean on days when exposed spots further up the coast are blown out. Peaks are a-frame in character, offering both lefts and rights across a 50-100m wave length. The wave has a steep shape at take-off and delivers fast, tubular sections, though close-outs are common at lower tides when the banks expose fully. As tide pushes through the rising cycle the banks tend to hold shape better and rides lengthen. The break responds best to SW through NW swells in the 0.6-2.4m range, with NW as the optimal swell angle given the orientation of the bay. Crowds are light year-round; the dirt-track access via the clifftop between Urb Sancti Petri and Urb Roche keeps casual visitor numbers low. Water quality is clean with no recorded pollution sources nearby. There are no facilities on the beach itself.
