World-class a-frame beachbreak near Conil with sandbars anchored by underlying rock strata, firing from 1m up to 2.5m.
El Palmar is a sandy beachbreak on the Costa de la Luz south of Cadiz, regarded as the best beach break in the province. Underlying rock strata locks the sandbars in position, letting rip currents sculpt well-defined peaks instead of the formless slop of a shifting sandbar beach. Waves run between 200 and 500m with hollow, fast sections and vertical takeoffs. A S to NW groundswell in the 1 to 2.5m range brings the banks alive on low to rising tide when the sand is exposed and the wave pitches cleanest. High tide flattens it and shorebreak takes over. East wind kills the spot; the standard call is to head north to Roche where the cliffs provide cover. The beach is long enough that consistent crowds spread across multiple peaks rather than stacking on one. Oceano Surf shop fronts the main peak and gives reliable daily sandbar reports. Free roadside parking, a surf school and a campsite are all within the village.

Crowds are consistent but spread across a long beach with multiple peaks. On good swells the main peak in front of Oceano Surf can get busy, but there is almost always space further down the sand.

Walk-in access from the village of El Palmar onto the sand. Free roadside parking is available near the local surf shop. Heading from Conil, take the right turn at Venta Pinero. The best peaks are normally in front of Oceano Surf.
