Forte Novo is a mellow, sand-bottom beach break influenced by the first jetty at Praia do Forte Novo. It produces both lefts and rights, with usual rides under 50 metres and occasional 50-150 metre rides on good days. The wave is generally ordinary and relatively powerless, starting below 1 metre and holding to around 1 metre or slightly above. Low tide is typically best, while small, low-tide conditions can suit beginners and lessons. Winter, especially January, brings the most consistent clean surf, while summer is often mostly flat.
