Yeh Sumbul is a quiet, lesser-known surf spot on Bali’s west coast just west of Medewi, offering a long stretch of beach breaks over mixed sand and cobblestone that produce numerous left and right peaks for riders. The southern end features smaller, more manageable waves ideal for beginners and intermediates looking to escape crowded lineups, while during large swells the waves can become heavy and barreling, challenging even expert surfers. The best surf is typically found during the dry season and shoulder months, with optimal conditions at mid-tide and in the mornings when winds are light. The vibe here remains peaceful and rural, with farmlands and paddies backing the shoreline and a mellow local feel, although development in the area is gradually increasing. Surfers should be aware that water quality can be affected by river runoff, especially after rain.
