Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
A mellow, long left-hand point break with a boulder bottom, Medewi is known for offering Bali’s longest ride with fat shoulders ideal for stylish carving and longboarding.
Medewi is Bali’s longest left-hand point break, offering a long, mellow wave that peels for over 300 meters across a boulder bottom. Known for its smooth, rolling waves ideal for longboarding and relaxed carving, it is especially suitable for beginners progressing from beach breaks due to its slow speed and easy take-off. The wave breaks over cobblestones and boulders, creating slow, user-friendly sections that favor intermediate surfers, though more advanced riders can still enjoy its length and playful sections for maneuvers. While it lacks the power and barrels of southern reef breaks, Medewi remains fun and accessible. The spot works best on mid to high tide and handles medium to large swells, often staying surfable when nearby spots are maxed out. Access requires crossing slippery boulders, which can be tricky at low tide because of barnacles. Early mornings are preferred for clean conditions, as the spot is exposed to prevailing winds. Due to its distance from busier areas like Kuta, Medewi tends to be less crowded, though crowds are still common given the wave’s length. The nearby village maintains a traditional Balinese charm with a few basic warungs and homestays.
Three hundred metres of cobblestone kindness, peeling slow for learners gone serious.

Relaxed rural getaway
Surf at dawn: the cross-onshore trade wind usually fills in by mid morning and turns the point bumpy
Wear booties, the paddle out crosses rounded cobbles that stay slick and some carry barnacles that cut
Aim for the higher half of the tide, more water over the boulders means a safer entry and a cleaner inside section
On bigger swells walk to the end of the point and paddle out there rather than crossing the lineup over the rocks
Two rivermouths bracket the break, so give the water a day or two after heavy rain
It is a two hour drive from Kuta, so staying in a losmen at the point is the only realistic way to make a dawn session
Locals and learners share one peak here, watch a few sets and take your turn before paddling for the top of the point
