Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Pulukan Right is a punchy right-hander over sand, rock and cobblestone just east of Medewi, and it comes into its own on the low tide when the point drains out.
Pulukan Right is the right-hander on the Pulukan stretch of beach, about 1.2 kilometres east of the Medewi point in Desa Pulukan. The bottom is a mix of sand, rock and cobblestone boulders that holds the banks in place, so the peaks keep their shape better than the pure sand breaks further down the west coast. The main setup is an A-frame with a right-hander alongside it, separated by a channel, and it is noticeably punchier than the soft left at Medewi without ever turning into a dredging barrel. Rides run roughly 50 to 150 metres. Its real value is the tide: Medewi is best on the mid to high, Pulukan works on all tides but comes alive on the low, so when the point drains out surfers move down the beach to keep surfing. It switches on around head high and turns into a disorganised mess much beyond overhead and a half. The hazards are the bottom itself, with submerged boulders you cannot see from the surface, plus rips and dirty water near the rivermouth after rain. Access is a small road to the beach with parking in front of the main peak, and the stretch stays quiet even when the point is busy.
The right you move down to when the tide drains Medewi out.

Surf this on the low tide: Medewi is best on the mid to high, and when the point drains out this is where the locals move
Get in before about 10am, the wind fills in after that
Paddle out through the channel in front of the bike parking rather than crossing the rocks
It needs about head high to switch on and turns disorganised much past overhead and a half
Several peaks share this stretch, so walk the beach and pick one instead of crowding the main A frame
