Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Kedungu is a consistently crowded Bali reef break with left and right waves over uneven reef, suitable for beginners and intermediates, set against scenic rice field backdrops.
Kedungu is a laid-back surf spot located on Bali's southwest coast, just north of Tanah Lot. The spot offers medium-paced lefts and rights that break over an uneven submerged reef mixed with sand, providing waves that allow for cutbacks and a few good turns before they shoulder off. It is ideal for better beginners and solid intermediates. Swells from the southwest provide the best and most consistent waves, especially during the dry season. The beach has a relaxed atmosphere but is often crowded, frequently with large groups of beginners, and local surfers tend to dominate the lineup. Hazards include submerged rocks, sea urchins, occasional strong currents during bigger swells, and surfers should be cautious of the sweep and shorebreak when returning to shore. Access is straightforward, with facilities such as restrooms, showers, surf schools, a surf shop, and local warungs offering snacks and board rentals. Rips on either side of the break assist with paddling out.
