Tanjung Sari Left, known locally as Jantuk, is a short, fickle left over shallow coral in Sanur, soft and forgiving when it is small and a heavy top-to-bottom barrel when it is not.
Tanjung Sari Left, also called Sindhu Left, Magic Wave or by its local name Jantuk, is a left-hand reef break on Bali's southeast coast at Sanur, off the beach known as Pantai Karang. It is the rarer of the two waves here: a quality left on a coastline dominated by rights, breaking across the channel from Tanjung Sari Right and a little farther out to sea. Jantuk means forehead, and on a set wave the reason is obvious, because the wall jacks up thick and top-heavy before throwing. The spot has two modes. On a small swell with a medium to high tide it is short, soft and forgiving, a good place for an intermediate to learn to surf over coral. On a powerful swell it becomes a fast, top-to-bottom barrel at any tide, and the lower the tide the heavier and shallower it gets. It works on a south to southwest swell with a light west or northwest wind, which makes it a wet season wave, roughly November to March. The reef is shallow and sharp, there are rocks standing out of the water on the paddle out, and the spot has a reputation for breaking boards, so caution is advised. It is fickle and often quieter than nearby breaks, though weekends and holidays bring more surfers. Local warungs and easy beach access make it a comfortable spot for a session.

Uncrowded and quiet
Park at Pantai Sindhu and paddle out through the channel or over the reef.
Access is harder than the right: the left breaks farther out and you often cross reef and rock outcrops to reach it.
Under head high on a medium to high tide is the intermediate window. Short, soft and forgiving.
On a powerful swell it turns into a top to bottom barrel at any tide, and the lower the tide the heavier it gets.
The offshore is the wet season northwest wind, so aim for November to March.
It is fickle. Check it before you commit, and check Sindhu Right across the channel as the backup.
