Hyatt Reef is a boat-access reef break over a kilometre off the southern end of Sanur, offering long, hollow right-handers for confident intermediates and up.
Hyatt Reef is a well-known offshore reef break located well over a kilometre from the beach at the southern end of Sanur, Bali, on the south side of the main channel out in front of the old Fairmont Sanur hotel. The reef features three sections: an outer peak that is shallow and unpredictable, offering occasional big, peaky barrels but frequent closeouts, a main peak that provides more lined-up, long performance waves with barrel sections, and an inside peak that reforms into a softer right shoulder in deeper water. The spot works best with a solid south or southwest swell and light northwest or west winds, which is why it is a wet-season wave from November to March. While the wave is generally suited for intermediate and advanced surfers due to fast takeoffs and a shallow reef, it is not a beginner break at any size: the distance from shore, the current and the boat logistics rule that out. Hazards include the sharp, shallow reef at low tide and strong currents. Access is by local boat from Pantai Mertasari, and the paddle out is the longest of any break in Bali. Crowds can build up during peak season, though mornings are often quieter.
