Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Purnama Beach is a tranquil black sand beach on Bali’s southeast coast featuring consistent left and right mellow beach breaks suitable for all skill levels.
Purnama Beach is a scenic black sand beach near Gianyar, Bali, known for its mellow, consistent beach break waves. The spot works best during the wet season, from November to March, when southern swells meet the offshore west and north-west winds. It attracts a mix of locals and visiting surfers, especially intermediates seeking less crowded alternatives to Kuta. The wave is generally forgiving but can close out during larger swells, and on a big swell with a low-tide morning the outside turns into a heavy, expert-only slab. Facilities are basic, with a few warungs and parking near the beach. Early mornings offer the cleanest conditions and the smallest crowds.
