Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Keramas is a world-class, high-performance right-hand reef break on Bali's east coast known for its powerful barrels and heavy crowds.
Keramas is a fast, powerful right-hand reef break renowned for its barreling waves and consistent performance. The spot features two main take-off zones: a deeper, faster section offering heavy barrels and a more accessible wide section with rippable walls. Waves work best on a rising to high tide with a medium to large south to southwest swell and light offshore winds in the early morning, as lower tides expose the sharp volcanic reef and reduce wave quality. The shallow volcanic reef can be hazardous, especially at low tide, and careful navigation of channels is required for safe entry and exit. Keramas is popular among advanced surfers, locals, and tourists, often resulting in crowded lineups, and frequently hosts international surf competitions. Access is straightforward, with parking and warungs nearby. Local surf schools operate, but beginners should exercise caution due to the challenging conditions.
