Mushroom Rock is a fast right-hander breaking off the southern isthmus at Nusa Dua, Bali. It is strictly a high-tide break and comes alive in the wet season, offering short, steep, hollow rides over coral and rock for confident intermediates and advanced surfers.
Mushroom Rock is a reef break on Bali's east coast at Nusa Dua, breaking off the southern isthmus that separates it from Black Stone. It is a fast, intense right-hander over a reef and rock bottom, and the rides are short but critical: a steep take-off that pulls straight into a barrel section before racing into a heavy closeout that is best avoided. It is strictly a high-tide break, because the wave needs plenty of water over the reef to slow it to a rideable speed, and it comes alive in the wet season from November to March when west and north-west winds blow offshore on this coast. From May to September the dry-season trade winds are onshore here. Shoulder-high and below the wave is manageable for competent intermediates; head-high and above it barrels on take-off and is for advanced and expert surfers only. The main dangers are the rocky isthmus the wave breaks against, sharp shallow coral, and currents that build around the headland as the tide changes. Intermediates should paddle out from the beach rather than jumping off the rocks, and the only practical exit is to paddle back to shore.
Fast barrels over shallow coral that demands respect and rewards early light.

Bali
Black Stone breaks on the south side of the Nusa Gede headland at Nusa Dua, where backwash off the rock wedges the peak into a steep, fast take-off. It is mostly lefts with a short right off the peak, it wants mid tide and a small to medium wet season swell, and it holds something for every level from whitewater on the inside to overhead sections out the back.
