Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Sri Lanka in Bali is a powerful, fast right-hander breaking over sharp reef, best suited for experienced surfers.
Sri Lanka is a well-known right-hander breaking over sharp live coral on the east coast of Bali, directly in front of Club Med at the north end of the Nusa Dua reef. The wave is fast, hollow, and favored by experienced surfers for its performance walls and open barrels when a large south to southwest swell wraps around the Bukit peninsula. It is a wet season wave, best from November to March, when the offshore wind swings southwest to northwest; from May to September the trade winds blow straight onshore. It works from low through high tide, with low drawing it hollower over shallower reef and high fattening it out. It picks up less swell than the other Nusa Dua breaks, so it needs a substantial swell to switch on and it is not consistent. Access is a paddle out through the channel, either off the slippery jetty rocks or from the beach, but surfers should be cautious of strong currents on outgoing tides and the shallow reef at low tide, which poses hazards for the inexperienced. Crowds build fast on the rare days it is working.

Bali
Mushroom Rock is a fast right-hander breaking off the southern isthmus at Nusa Dua, Bali. It is strictly a high-tide break and comes alive in the wet season, offering short, steep, hollow rides over coral and rock for confident intermediates and advanced surfers.
Bali
Black Stone breaks on the south side of the Nusa Gede headland at Nusa Dua, where backwash off the rock wedges the peak into a steep, fast take-off. It is mostly lefts with a short right off the peak, it wants mid tide and a small to medium wet season swell, and it holds something for every level from whitewater on the inside to overhead sections out the back.

It needs a big south to southwest swell that wraps around the Bukit, so check Nusa Dua first: if that is not well overhead, Sri Lanka will not be breaking
Low tide draws it hollower over shallower reef and high tide fattens it, with the incoming low to mid the most reliable window
In the dry season take the dawn session, before the trade winds get up
Bring a shortboard or a fish, and save energy for the paddle out through the channel against the current
