Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Kuta Beach is Bali's iconic, beginner-friendly beach break featuring consistently mellow waves along a long sandy stretch and a lively atmosphere.
Kuta Beach in Bali is a 2km stretch of golden sand renowned as an iconic surf destination, attracting both beginners and experienced surfers. The beach break features numerous peaks along its length, with Halfway Kuta being the most consistent and crowded spot, favored for its longer right-hand waves. The waves are generally soft and forgiving, making it ideal for learning and surf schools, though larger swells and low tides can create hollow, more challenging conditions suitable for intermediates and advanced surfers. The area is lively and bustling with tourists, surf schools, and amenities, but can become crowded and occasionally polluted, particularly during the wet season. Access is straightforward with easy paddling from the beach, and the best conditions typically occur during the dry season when SE-NE offshore winds and higher tides prevail. Surfers should remain cautious of occasional strong currents and shorebreak, especially at higher tides, though the beach is patrolled, making it one of the safer spots in Bali.
Two kilometres of peaks where Halfway Kuta's right-handers forgive the learning curve.
