Punchy sandbar shorebreak on Île d'Oléron producing fast, hollow a-frame peaks close to the water's edge.
Les Huttes, also known as Trois Pierres, is a shorebreak-style sandbar on the Atlantic-facing coast of Île d'Oléron. Peaks break steeply and quickly over a sandy bottom, throwing up short but hollow a-frame sections that favour both directions in the 0-50m range. The wave is defined by its proximity to shore - takeoffs are abrupt and sections don't linger, rewarding surfers who can read the shifting peaks and commit to fast drops. It fires best on SW to NW swells with easterly winds keeping the face clean. Higher tides generally produce the most defined tube sections, while lower water can expose the scattered reef patches lurking beneath the sand. The spot is well-known among the Oléron surf community and across the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, regularly drawing crowds when conditions align. On bigger swells, rip currents develop and need to be factored into the paddle-out strategy. A free car park provides easy beach access, and the surf school presence nearby means beginners and intermediaries frequently share the lineup. Les Seulières, directly to the south, offers more of the same character when Les Huttes is maxed out or overly busy.
