Les Allassins.

Les Allassins is a sand-bottom beachbreak sitting on the exposed Atlantic flank of Île d'Oléron, producing A-frame peaks that offer both lefts and rights across a 50-100m ride. Its key advantage over the more famous Vert-Bois break immediately to the north is geography: offshore rocks at Vert-Bois absorb a portion of incoming swell energy, while Les Allassins, roughly 300m further south, escapes that shadow and consistently picks up a notch more power. The wave character is medium-paced with a steep, bowly face that can well up and deliver punchy sections - not a wave that closes out lazily, but one that rewards committed surfing in the 0.3-2.4m range it handles best. Autumn is when the spot comes into its own, aligning reliable SW-to-NW Atlantic groundswells with the cleaner weather windows. An incoming tide noticeably improves both size and shape, though the break functions across all tidal stages. NE winds provide the classic offshore, glassing off the banks and sharpening up the peaks. The spot is one of Oléron's most frequented stretches of coast, drawing consistent numbers of intermediates who know the island circuit well. Paddling out is straightforward on smaller days but the shorebreak demands attention when swell builds. Rip currents are present and should be read before entering, particularly after tide changes.
