L'Amelie.

L'Amelie is a sandy beach break on the northern tip of the Medoc coast, sitting just inside the mouth of the Gironde estuary. The break produces A-frame peaks that split into left and right options, with the most defined waves forming up near the old blockhaus bunker and the jetty. The wave face tends to be steep with a fast initial section - occasionally producing hollow moments - though the overall shape runs more slopey and progressive than punchy, giving intermediates room to work. Wave lengths sit in the 50-100m range on a solid swell, making for decent rides without being a grinding point break. The spot works across all tides due to its sandy bottom, though the Stormrider data points to incoming tide as the most productive window. It fires on SW to NW swells, with NW being the optimal angle, and needs an easterly wind to clean up the face. Consistency is reliable by Landes standards - the estuary geography provides some natural swell focusing. The dunes behind the beach remain largely undeveloped aside from a campsite, which keeps the atmosphere low-key outside peak season. Summer brings crowds to both the blockhaus and jetty peaks, when conditions are most accessible and visitor numbers from the campsite swell the lineup. The estuarine location means water quality can deteriorate after heavy rainfall.
