St-Trojan occupies a wide, exposed stretch of sandy coastline on the southwest tip of Île d'Oléron, generating a-frame peaks that shift up and down the beach depending on sandbar formation. The wave is well-covered with a slopey, welling character - not a barreling beach break but a genuine medium-speed wall that rewards turns rather than tube hunting. Flat spots and an overall mellow depth reading mean the wave backs off rather than hammers, making it forgiving until size builds. It fires on SW through NW swells with a direct W window being optimal, and needs an easterly to hold its shape - any other wind direction quickly degrades the surface and the wave form alike. Size range is broad, working from ankle-slappers up to solid 2m+, though the paddle-out becomes a genuine test above head-high with no obvious channel to exploit. Consistency is solid for the region, regularly receiving Atlantic groundswell that wraps into this west-facing bay. Low tide rips grow progressively stronger toward Maumusson Point to the south, a hazard that catches the unwary. Access is straightforward - free car parking is available nearby and the beach is wide and easy to read from the dunes before paddling out. Crowds are light by French Atlantic standards; the beach's length means peaks spread the lineup naturally. Visiting surfers should be aware that submerged objects have been flagged in this zone.
