Les Boulassiers.

Les Boulassiers is a reef left-hander on the northeastern tip of Île d'Oléron, sitting just south of La Brée les Bains. The wave wraps around the island's northern point on swells above roughly 2.5m, refracting across an uneven reef shelf to produce a long, mellow wall that runs 50-100m before fading. The depth profile - well-covered with occasional flat spots - gives the wave its forgiving character: it wells up and wraps rather than pitching hard, making it accessible to intermediates who can handle a solid swell. Wider peaks off the point can offer shorter rights on the same swell, though the left is the headline act. Because the spot sits offshore and faces north-northeast, it only comes alive when a proper W or NW storm is pushing through - conditions that simultaneously make most of the Atlantic coast onshore. That natural wind shadow is why it matters. On those rare days, when the rest of the island is blown out, Les Boulassiers offers clean, rideable surf. Water entry is over reef, requiring careful timing; the spot breaks best at high tide and the reef becomes an increasing hazard as the water drops. Exactly because it breaks so infrequently, crowds can be dense when conditions align - regulars know the window and arrive early.
