Le Santocha.

Le Santocha is a right-hander that forms along the groyne at the southern end of Capbreton's main beach, catching swells that push past the port entrance and building into well-covered, medium-paced walls. The wave is characterised by a slopey, welling-up shape — generous drops into workable faces that back off as they run, finishing in a close-out inside section. Bottom is sand throughout. Moving south toward the semi-submerged blockhaus remnants the wave hollows noticeably, producing steeper take-offs for those willing to pick their way further down the beach. NW swell is the sweet spot; the break handles everything from W through N and works across all tides, making it one of the more consistent options on this stretch when exposed beaches are maxing out. Home to a surf club with over three decades of history, Santocha is a regular contest venue hosting events from grassroots club level through to King of the Groms. Rips are a constant factor — currents run hard and paddle-outs are long on bigger days. The standard workaround is to enter at Le Prévent to the north and paddle around the groyne into the lineup. Parking on Impasse de la Savanne is limited. Expect surf school groups on smaller days alongside experienced locals, making for a consistently dense water with a wide range of abilities sharing the same peak.
